Vista-Bar-image

The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta takes place once a year in the beautiful Sardinian town of Porto Cervo, this year 27 yachts took to sea and battled it out for a myriad of sea racing prizes, the activities take place out of the YCCS (yacht club) clubhouse on the marina at Porto Cervo, the marina and clubhouse were built by the Aga Khan in the early 1970’s and provides a stunning backdrop to the racing that takes place, in fact before the 1965 there was only one white villa on the coast at Porto Cervo before the Aga Khan who is passionate about yachting decided to build up the area.

The Regatta which takes place every year in the month of June is a must for racing or even general boat enthusiasts, it’s a chance to mingle with the yacht owners, yacht crew and experience the sights and sounds of the magical island of Sardinia, there are many hotels one could stay at, Hotel Porto Cervo, the more upmarket Hotel Romazzino and Hotel Cala Di Volpe for the more well heeled.

For the last three years that event has been masterfully sponsored by clothing brand Loro Piana, which has a deep history in Italian fabric manufacturing and is well known throughout Italy and beyond via its 300 + stores dotted around the world, including two stores in London, one on Bond Street and one on Sloane Square. The Regatta and the Loro Piana brand complement each other beautifully and both compliment the consistency and quality of the event and brand as well as in those taking part.

Loro Piana also take part in the event with there own boat called ‘My Song’ (shown in the above picture) it is easy to understand why they would go on to sponsor the regatta when the event and brand are closely linked in such a way.

The Loro Piana brand is one of constant creativity, they are always looking out for ways to create and source sustainable fabric sources, one of the latest products is made from Vicuna, a rare and light material which is sourced from Mongolia.

The regatta itself is easy to get - to; it is only a two - hour flight from Gatwick on Easy Jet www.easyjet.com to Olbia airport in Sardinia and then a short taxi ride to any of the three hotels mentioned.
